The Managing Director (MD), DKM Diamond Microfinance Limited, Mr. Richard Zawi has underscored the need for corporate institutions to extend much of their Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) to orphanages. “The efforts of owners of such centres (orphanages) are not enough to overcome the numerous socio-economic plights facing children within such facilities. “It is absurd to note that institutions mandated to support national growth often concentrate on income generating activities forgetting about the common good of mankind”, he stressed.

Mr. Zawi made this discovery when he led a handful of the company’s staff to two separate homes (Hanukah Children’s Home and Compassion is Love in Action) within Sunyani Municipality as part of the activities marking the 27th anniversary of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Mr. Delle K. Martin. The MD lamented that orphanages are communities for orphaned, abandoned and needy children from age zero to eighteen years. Speaking on behalf of the CEO, Mr. Zawi further itemized categorically that one major humane concept associated with DKM Diamond Microfinance Limited is to help address societal challenges, most especially amongst women and children who are seen as vulnerable. He pointed that the generous move of the company goes beyond profit maximization. Madam Juliana Osei, caretaker, Compassion is Love in Action who received the food items worth GHC 1,000.00 and GHC 1,000.00 cash commended DKM Diamond Microfinance Limited for the openhandedness. She took the opportunity to appeal to philanthropists and other social related NGOs operating within Sunyani to support the activities of orphanages. In a related development, Mr. Raphael Santah, administrator in charge of Hanukah Children’s Home who also received similar donation (GHC 1,000.00 cash and GHC 1,000.00 worth of food items) from DKM Daimond Microfinance Limited commended the company for such compassionate step. He urged other financial institutions operating in the Sunyani Municipality to follow suit. The two homes were also given used clothes. Mr. Frank Ayisi, the Branch Manager in charge of Wenchi, said it is most appropriate for the less privileged in society to be considered in our daily thoughts, especially those housed in the various confined homes (orphanages) nationwide. He added that such children are the future leaders and there is the need to take very good care of them in terms of shelter, education, clothing and feeding.
