The Reverend Ebenezer Nyakoh, Head Pastor of the Agona Swedru branch of the Holy Ghost Miracle Centre, has called on Ghanaians to stop putting pressure on the government for socio-economic advancement overnight.

He said the economy was still fragile and urged the people to work hard and pray for the government to be able to carry out its development programmes.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Agona Swedru on Thursday, Rev Nyakoh said the people have to sacrifice and support the government to resuscitate the economy.

He said they must rely on God for the prosperity of the nation since no government could satisfy all the needs of the people.

Rev Nyakoh said this year should be declared "National Hard Work Year" and called on the people to strive to over come the economic woes facing the country during the period.

On the recent increase in the price of petroleum products, he said, "it is the collective responsibility of all of us to service the debt of 3.4 trillion cedis Tema Oil Refinery owe to free Ghana Commercial Bank and others to stand on their feet".

He cautioned those who have taken advantage of the increase to cheat to stop since they would not be spared when they were apprehended.

Rev Nyakoh called on religious leaders and NGOs to lead the crusade to curb the spread of the HIV/AIDS pandemic since there is no known cure for the disease.

The Head Pastor said the Church had initiated a programme to provide financial assistance for single parents, widows and orphans, adding that, about seven million cedis had been spent to settle the school and training fees of some of the beneficiaries.

It had also started a scheme to train some of them to become self-employed instead of begging for alms.

Reverend Mary Koomson, Assistant Pastor in-charge of Women's Affairs, said the Welfare Committee of the Church was training the women in tie and dye, batik, talcum powder and soap production to generate income.
