Youthful exuberance is a dangerous thing. It was Nkrumah's youthful exuberance that caused his name calling of the US and his overthrow by CIA. He sought help from Washinton to build the Akosombo dam and yet resorted to calling US all sort of names. A mature leader would not have done that. Again, it was Rawlingses in experience and age that caused him to kill all the senior military officers. You are right SAS. Older leaders act with more temperance and avoid excesses I will therefore take Akuffo Addo over President Baloney Mahama.

Thanks for your interesting anaysis,Dr SAS.My research about Nkrumah clearly indicates he was in a class of his own and even the older and learned J.B. Danquah was no match to him.In fact,Nkrumah lived several years ahead of his time.It was evident that while his chronological age was 42 yearsnn when he became leader of Government business, his mental age was higher by far. This explains why he became a dynamo in the world of politics and now acclaimed AFRICA'S MAN OF THE MILLENIUM.Even his detractors notably the imperialists and neo-colonialsts acknowledged his vision. To classify Nkrumah with Rawlings and Acheampong as bad actors in our political history is ridiculous.

I'll choose the young Nkrumah with all his faults over any of these folks you talk about. I'll also choose the young Jesus Christ, Martin Luther King, John F Kennedy over many a man who not only grays around the temple but also over the downtown triangle... if you know where I mean

By the way, how can you lump the purely titular and ceremonial position enjoyed by say Edward Akuffo Addo to the visionary, dynamic, and exemplary leadership exhibited by Kwame Nkrumah?
I would submit to you that even the gentleman from my Taabuom, Kutu Acheampong, with all his crudeness and limited horizon, accomplished a lot more than the 'Oxbridge'-trained "Olus" you heap 'tons' of praises on!
Do all of us a big favour by coming back with an in-depth analysis to support your central thesis!

Dr SAS, frankly, I think the intellectual astringency of which you're so capable is missing in this article. Though I agree with your attempt to project, persuade and promote Nana Akufo-Addo's leadership qualities as he bids for the country's presidency, but I think your categorisation of Ghana's political leadership and management into 'age' groups/generations as a persuasive factor is just ridiculously ludicrous.
Of course, as an intelligent person, you know there're significant differences in the leadership style, intelligence, personality, political philosophy, and vision of your the leaders in your stated groups. Whether you like or hate Ghana's first President, Kwame Nkrumah, nobody could deny the fact that he was a great patriot and leader whose legacy is still around for all to see.
Of course, age is a factor in political leadership campaign. However, Nana Akufo-Addo's problem isn't necessarily his 'old age'. Has Nana being ruined by NDC's gutter politics too easily? Does Nana present himself in a way many Ghanaian voters find him very likeable? Is the divided NPP seen as a party ready to win the general election and govern?
