'Top militarymen must declare assets'

Tue, 23 Dec 1997 Source: --

A Ghanaian international legal luminary based in the United States has staunchly deplored the ploy by the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Obed Asamoah to exempt the senior officers of the Ghana Armed Forces from publicly declaring their assets. Mr Henry Kwasi Prempeh, a Washington-based lawyer, said the senior officers of the military should be among the first citizens to be subjected to any assets declaration. Mr Prempeh contends that officers of the Armed Forces are among the class of public officers who, over the years, have taken advantage of their public office to amass private fortunes and assets far in excess of their lawful incomes.
