Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alexander Kwaku Obeng has appealed to financial institutions to reduce pressure on those who take loans to buy commercial vehicles.

He said this would ease the burden on drivers and vehicle owners.

DSP Obeng said pressure put on vehicle owners and drivers by the banks for the recovery of loans made most drivers to speed unnecessarily to make more sales, resulting in accidents.

He said this at a road safety sensitization durbar on road safety at Koforidua.

DSP Obeng said it was an offence for persons under 25 years to drive commercial vehicles and called on drivers to insist passengers put on seatbelts.

Mr. David Nordor, the Eastern Regional Manager of Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, said with effect from June 2015 all vehicles must have seat belts, adding that the first phase of the exercise had started and new cars without seat belts coming for registration had been rejected.
