The Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Building Ghana, Rockson Dogbegah, says government must lead the way in cleaning up the construction industry and ensuring its proper growth.

Speaking at the just-ended 12th Building Construction and Property Exhibition in Accra, Mr. Dogbegah said the pursuance of innovation coupled with an invincible sense of professionalism and a keen adherence to standards are the key ingredients needed to develop the construction industry.

He noted that these three qualities are “inevitably the lifeblood of sustainable prosperity; that injects security and exacts investors’ confidence in the 21st Century”.

Mr. Dogbegah was commenting on the theme ‘The Next Construction Revolution: furthering development through innovation, professionalism and standards in Africa’, and added: “It is this trio of values that will sustain the cranes in the skies, expand job-offerings through its forward and backward linkages to our economies, and justify the new construction revolution in Africa”.

The CIOB Ghana Chair however believes that government must lead the way in instilling innovation, professionalism and standards through the promulgation of appropriate laws and regulations. He noted the rapid growth of cities across Africa with the population explosion, as well as the fast growth of villages on the continent into cities. He said all of these developments require that special attention be paid to the construction industry to ensure the right quality of infrastructure that will stand the test of time is put in place.

Mr. Dogbegah, who is also the Founder and Chairman of Berock Ventures Ltd., said the Building Construction and Property Exhibition presents an opportunity for industry players to discuss growth and development of the industry, so as to find ways of addressing the challenges that inhibit its smooth growth.

He urged all patrons to ensure that they make the maximum use of the opportunity availed at this fair by networking, placing orders and establishing the right contacts that promote businesses.
