The scheduled production of gas from the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant will have to delay a little longer as the flaring of gas by Tullow Oil plc continues.

Tullow was scheduled to complete flaring of gas last month but the exercise is yet to end.

The Principal Programme Officer in charge of Oil and Gas at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Kojo Agbenor-Efunam, explained to TV3 that the Jubilee Partners have been given the permission to continue flaring gas.

He mentioned that so far 3,500 standard cubic feet (scf) of gas has been flared.

Tullow was given permission by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum to flare 500 million scf between June and October in order to tie in operations with the gas processing plant in Atuabo.

Meanwhile, the delay in the production of gas from the new processing plant is having a toll on the Volta River Authority (VRA), which has resorted to the use of crude oil in power production.

TV3 learns the Authority is facing financial challenges with crude oil procurement.
