A Ghanaian Times photojournalist was on Monday December 8, 2014 attacked at an Accra High court by a group who accused him of wrongfully taking pictures of two ladies standing trial in the Nayele cocaine saga.
The ladies – Nana Akua Amponsah and Sadalia Sandra Nuhu – who are charged with conspiracy to commit crime, were refused bail by the sitting Judge, Justice Francis Obiri, and are expected back in court on December 12, 2014 for a consideration on their bail request.
Edem Mensah Tsotorme, who was covering the story got attacked by an angry mob who accused him of wrongfully taking pictures of the ladies.
Starr News’ court correspondent Wilberforce Asare, who was in court said the mob argued that taking pictures of the accused ladies and publishing them will tag them as criminals in the future, even if the law clears them of any wrongdoing.
Meanwhile management of the Ghanaian Times Newspaper will be filing an official complaint to the Ghana Journalist Association about the situation.
Nayele Ametefeh was arrested on November 10, 2014 at London’s Heathrow Airport with 12.5 kgs of cocaine. The two ladies standing trial are alleged to have been accomplices.
