Let us review the Auditor General's report YEAR AFTER YEAR on his audit recommendations.
Did he ever recommend that the WAREHOUSE AND IT'S CONTENTS were not insured and should be insured. If he did and no actions were taken, then we must punish all the responsible officers in charge of the warehouse. One person's negligence has affected all of us. WHY?

When was the last time they conducted a test drill? Never!!!! Who is in charge of these fire hydrants? There are too many square pegs in round holes today in Ghana. Many of these officers in high places are just incompetent. I love Ghana

Why should there even been a burning bush or "borla" close to such a facility? If the people who work in that facility are trained to know the importance of the place I don't think this would have happened. I always say we don't have good leaders in Ghana. I mean leaders from the grassroots not just our politicians because whoever was put in charge definitely didn't do a good job.

It is time we hold all politicians and technocrats to account, perhaps lock them up and close the whole damn democratic and political institutions and parties. No Insurance, what a sham country we are living in. What a shame. What other facilities do we presently have of such importance that doesn't have an insurance coverage ? The regional stores do they have insurance ? What does our insurance commissioner has to say about this ? Do they even have insurance cover on our hospital facilities ? We have heads full of marsh busily fighting each other to lead the country and they call themselves politicians.

First, the Ministry should procure locally what is availble in the market in Ghana and the nearby countries to meet urgent requirements. Second, orders for immediate deliveries by airfreight for crutial supplies which are not bulky. Third foreign suppliers should be requested to supply on ready stock available basis by sea while the forth procurement concerntrates on all items required for re-stocking for medium to long- term needs. While all these efforts are underway with cooperating partners, the Minister of Health and some of his directors in charge of procurement storage and safety should be requested to step aside, their case to handled by a committee to establish culpability and appropriate punishment for reneging on their responsibilities.

Managers of state institutions must be held responsible for their actions and inaction. These people are given furnished bungalows, big cars with drivers, free petrol, house helps, fat salaries and they do not have time to concentrate on doing the right things for mother Ghana. The poor tax payer will foot the bill again for the mismanagement of fat cats. What is your use to Ghana if you cannot help to insure this facility? Has it never dawn on you and your board to realize that such a huge facility needs insurance? What a useless board.

I heard the sad new from BBC focus on Africa yesterday. According to an official who was interviewed, the huge facility that serves the ENTIRE country is not insured. I could not believe my ears! This is scandalous in this era! I felt like wailing. What a loss! It goes to show the mentality of our leaders (I'm not talking about politics). How many of our so-called big men have life insurance policies or have insured their houses and other properties. We always spend huge sums of money and energy on non-esentials, leaving the ESSENTIALS unattended to. So these are the kind of leaders we have entrusted the destiny of our country? I wonder what legacy they are going to bequeath to the young ones. I bet you, there must be a revolution to flush out all the square pgs in round holes!

These bush fires and the like are pure madness with the risen population density by now.
The times of traditional methods of 'slash and burn'-cultivation and 'waste'-burning should be over, but nearly no-one in Ghana yet understands the consequences.
Since 100 years or so, settlements and infrastructure have spread to even remote parts. Compare the sizes of the villages now and thirty years or so ago. Nearly no place is spared from reckless farmers and poachers and hunters and mere arsonists just throwing matches into the tinder-dry 'bush', without even considering to cut firebreaks. Many times just in hope to catch some small animals. If they would not use their money in the beer bars so much, they would usually even have enough to buy some meat or rear livestock animals.
That way, due to erosion and soil degradation, in about a decade Ghanaians would starve helplessly en masse in a year of draught and/or financial crisis, because the landscapes constantly ravaged by fires can no longer sustain yields, even with plenty of fertilizers.
BTW - do Ghanaians understand the scale of 200 Million GhC ?
