‘Ghana needs transformational leaders’

The Managing Director of the First Atlantic Bank, Gabriel Edgal, has said Ghana needs transformational leaders who must be honest, trustworthy, upright, ethical and exhibit high moral standards in all facets of life.

Addressing the 2014/15 matriculation of 200 freshers of the Ghana Christian University College at Amrahia, on the Accra-Dodowa highway, Mr Edgal said transformation leadership was a process where leaders and their followers were able to raise one another to higher heights of morality and motivation.

Mr. Edgal urged the students to endeavour to be models of integrity, set clear goals, have high expectations, provide support and inspire their colleagues throughout their studies.

He said an effective leader must be measured in terms of the results achieved rather than the efforts he puts in.

Mr. Edgal asked the country’s universities to equip graduates with the requisite know-how for life instead of producing graduates on wholesale basis.

According to him, graduates must let society benefit from their education by effecting changes in all facets of life. “Our future leaders must be desirous of making sacrifices for a brighter future,” he said.

He challenged the students to dream big and work hard towards attaining them.

The President of the Ghana Christian University College, Dr Manuel Budu Adjei, said some leaders had lost integrity. He, therefore, advised the students to guard against cheating, plagiarism, lying, backbiting and all other kinds of vices.

He said the College was aligned with modern tertiary programmes responsive to employment and the development of the country.

Dr Budu Adjei hinted that the College was working hard to introduce a B Sc Nursing programme, and thereafter establish the School of Health Sciences.

The students have been enroled in the School of Theology, School of Development Studies and School of Professional Studies.
