Workers of Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) in Tema have embarked on a demonstration to demand higher salary increments. The workers are demanding a 70 per cent pay increase, which according to them is what has been approved for all companies under the Ghana Cocoa Board.
The workers are alleged to have ignored a plea from their union leaders not to go on the demonstration since they were still discussing the issue with management together with representatives of the Industrial and Commercial Union of the Trades Union Congress.
The Managing Director of the company, Paul Awuah was allowed to enter the company’s premises only after the leadership of the Tema branch of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) intervened. Mr Awuah told ADOM FM that the CPC is no longer under the Ghana Cocoa Board and thus is not affected by the decision. Meanwhile the ICU is meeting with the workers to resolve the impasse.
