Andre Ayew shed tears as he waved goodbye to the Olympique Marseille fans at the Stade Velodrome on Saturday.
The 25-year-old is leaving the French giants after following the inability of the club to renew his expiring contract.
Ayew has been with Marseille since he started playing football.
He followed the footsteps of his father, Abedi who helped the side with the Champions League in the early 90’s.
But Marseille’s inability to pay competitive wages forced the Ghanaian to look elsewhere for greener pastures.
The Ghana international couldn’t hold back his tears after featuring in his final game for Marseille in the 3-0 home win over Bastia.
“I am very moved and very proud of what I accomplished here,” a highly emotional Ayew told the crowd.
“This club has given me everything, and I thank you.”
Ayew had a special boots customized in Marseille colours for the game on Saturday.
The talented forward has been linked to clubs in Italy, England and Germany.
