A Ghanaian couple who were quarantined by health authorities on suspicion of SARS infection have been released. The two were kept in isolation after they arrived in Accra from Egypt where they were quarantined by the authorities, also on suspicion of being infected with SARS.

The couple were on transit in Egypt on their way to Ghana from Japan. The Egyptian authorities decided to retain them because the man was allegedly showing signs of the illness. They were however flown to Ghana after they had been certified as SARS-free by the Egyptian health authorities.

Ghana’s health ministry decided to keep them in isolation for further examinations. Deputy Health Minister, Moses Dani-Baah told JOY FM that the medical examinations showed that the couple were not infected by the SARS disease.
