Nigerian Pastor before tribunal for fraud

Accra, (Greater Accra) Aug. 5, A Nigerian Evangelist, Rev Omoghene Odafe today appeared before an Accra Circuit Tribunal charged with defrauding by faulse pretences. Odafe pleaded not rpt not guilty to defrauding Madam Stella Adatsi of 1.8 million cedis and was remanded in custody until August 11. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Joseph Anneh Kwame told the tribunal chaired by Mr Charles Louis Quist that, Odafe arrived in the country from Nigeria on a visit to Rev Dele of Winners Chapel at Abeka in Accra. The prosecution said Odafe did not rpt not meet Rev Dele but was welcome by Madam Adatsi and a friend who were at the church premises and catered for him. The Odafe promised to send Madam Adatsi to the United States because of her hospitality and also pursuaded her to withdraw all monies in her savings account. Inspector Anneh said Odafe succeeded in collecting various sums of monies amounting to 1.8 million cedis from Madam Adatsi for the purchase of items including clothes for their trip to America and further promised to bear the travelling expenses himself. The prosecutor said Odafe gave dates of their departure to the United States to Madam Adatsi, but kept on postponing the journey. Madam Adatsi made a report to the police when she realised that she had been defrauded and Odafe was arrested on July 31, this year, the prosecution added. Gri.
