Junior Achievers Trust International (JATI) has launched a flagship programme to create opportunities for senior high school students to have hands-on entrepreneurial training and to kindle their interest in self-employment creation.

Dubbed: “The young business venture,” the entrepreneurship training programme is expected to sharpen students’ practical know-how on business management and augment theoretical part of the academic work in schools across the country.

Mrs Adwoa Abebresse, Chief Executive Officer of JATI, said at the inauguration that students would receive sufficient skills training and assistance to create jobs for themselves and also engage others to help reduce the growing unemployment rate in the country.

Over the years, she said, there have been too much concentration on white colour jobs, which has become deep-seated in people’s minds, and sidelining the critical role private enterprises play, deepening high reliance on government for employment.

“You need them to become economically, socially, academically and morally sufficient citizens who will contribute meaningfully to the nation,” she said

She said the programme is designed in a way to bring industrialist and business persons with proven track records to share experiences and ideas with the students regularly.

Mrs Felicia Boakye-Yiadom, Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, advised students to cultivate reading habit to acquire sufficient and relevant knowledge to empower them to overcome challenges of life.

She asked students to focus on their vision, be confident, steadfast, work harder and resist any temptation likely to influence their lives negatively.

She lauded JATI for coming up with the initiative geared towards helping students get lifelong skills in entrepreneurship and nurturing them to be independent and self-reliant in life.

Mrs Felicia Adu, Chief Operations Officer of JATI, told Ghana News Agency that the organisation is running a life education assurance scheme and an entrepreneurial skill training programmes to help curb school dropout rates and build financial foundation of the students.

To assist students in the events of unexpected happenings that are likely to truncate their education, she said, JATI has partnered with Vanguard Life Assurance to pay school fees of students.

“We do not want you to depend only on others for employment but we would wish that you will become problem solvers, develop your skills and set up your own businesses in future, when you are out of school,” Mrs Adu said.

JATI has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service to provide entrepreneurship training and life education assurance to all students in senior high, she added.
