THE Minister of Energy, Dr Paa Kwasi Nduom, yesterday, inaugurated the committee to investigate the allegations made against the Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA) Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby by some workers of the company.
The committee is made up of Mr J. Aggrey Mensah, former Director-General of Ghana Telecom, Mr Occy Banful of the National Development Planning Commission, a chartered accountant and Mrs Shiela Minta, a legal practitioner as member/secretary.
In an interview, Dr Nduom said the ministry tried to exercise caution in constituting the committee to ensure that those selected will have no links with either the workers or management and that it will operate independently
He said the areas to be covered include the Strategic Reserve Plant, issues of the management of the lake, procurement of crude oil for the Takoradi Thermal Plant and procurement generally, the salary of the Chief Executive and other specific allegations made against him by the workers groups.
Dr Nduom said the committee, which will operate from the ministry will begin sitting today and present its report on June 2.
He gave the assurance that the committee will be given all the support to work independently and accordingly appealed to both workers and management to cooperate with it to enable it complete its work as expeditiously as possible.
He encouraged all those who will come forward to give evidence to support their claims with documents especially on allegations made by the workers groups.
Dr Nduom said as a confidence-building measure, he will meet the workers this morning to appeal to them to allow the committee to operate without undue pressure since the ministry attaches great importance to its work.
He commended both the workers and management for keeping to their word to protect VRA installations and for not doing anything to disrupt operations.
Dr Nduom announced the setting up of the committee at a press conference on Monday to enable both parties to state their claims through the due process and in line with natural justice and the rule of law
