Mr PBK again!!! Are you aware that the Chinese economy is dominated state owned behemoths in almost all sectors. There are no private banks in China, insurance is dominated by the likes of CITIC-PACIFIC, heavy industry by NORINCO, aviation by the CASINC CNOOC & CNOC in the petroleum sector shipping by OOCL & COSL all state owned and highly profitable. I could go on for days. THE END POINT OF UNFETTERED CAPITALISM IS PRIVATE MONOPOLY OF ALL PROFITS WITH SOCIALIZATION OF COSTS AND LOSSES AND THE DESTRUCTION OF THE "PUBLIC COMMONS". The cause of the famous London fog of from the 1860s thru the early part of the 1900s was unfettered capitalism, it was responsible for a decrease in the life expectancy of Londoners compared to the rest of Britain excluding cities such as Birmingham Sheffield Manchester and Glasgow. Nowadays London fog is known as acid rain. Have you heard of the Superfund in the united states, it was established in 1968 to ameliorate the environmental disasters located all over America a product of a century long reign of unfettered capitalism. At last examination; after the expenditure of hundreds of billions of dollars and 47 years it is still a work in progress. If state owned public benefit capitalism is incapable of delivering the goods why do private capitalists line up to buy privatized state assets.

Hello Kojo T, it is refreshing to read your comment without the subtle insults.Anyway it is because you asked a very serious question regarding our dear country that is why I have taken the pain to answer you. The problem with galamsey in Ghana is due to lack of property rights. Just ask yourself the question if those areas being destroyed, including the rivers belongs to somebody, will that person allow their property to be destroyed. Do you think you allow anybody to use your residence as a rubbish dump? Not a chance in hell. But people dump poisonous substances into our rivers because it belongs to nobody. If those areas being destroyed belong to somebody that person will take charge to see to it that those responsible are prosecuted.
The twentieth century have proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the union bosses scheme to further their own interest and careless about all workers, but just those under their umbrella, though that is even a suspect. I believe you live in the United States, and as you will be probably aware the only union bodies that have any serious leverage are those in the government employment, for example the teacher unions. Most workers have seen that they throttle development so their numbers have significantly reduced over the years and wield less power these days. Thank you again it was refreshing to read your comment.

Hello Gorgordutor, I will refer you to what Mr Kwarteng quoted from the French scholar - Rancière. Of course, I did not say that, and he is no friend of the capitalist. Thank you

It is about equity and ownership of capital. You work hard and you expect a just reward. Capitalism is about exploitation of your labor .Pay you less so the owner gets maximum profits.

Dr. Philip Kobie Baiddo, if socioeconomic development is a horse everyone should have ride it. For profit to accrue to the state that use it to enhance the socioeconomic development of citizens the state must own all major means of production and distribution. The state owning the major means of production and distribution relief the majority of the population from many services that they are to pay for. In Cuba the state provided free education, medical care, water at some places and free collection of garbage.
It is a fact that state ownership of the means of production and distribution was done away with in Britain, Japan and South Korea recently. The state owns the major means of production and distribution largely in France including the production and distribution of energy.
The Soviet Union was able to withstand the economic blocked and other acts targeted to cripple her is it is not because the state was supreme there. The same apply to Cuba, North Korea and Iran. It is the state ownership of the means of production and distribution that has put the U.S.S.R. and Russia steps ahead of the U.S. that currently the U.S. uses rockets from Russia to launch anything into space. The innovations in those countries were as a result of the efforts of their own citizens and not stolen expatriates as is the case in the U.S. So socialism and state ownership of the means of production and distribution enhance the production of human resources of those nations. Currently there are scores of Cuban doctors giving service to people all round the world. China send a lot of medical personnel to West Africa to put in check the Ebola epidemic. What the U.S. did was to send soldiers to the affected places. The major imperialist countries like Britain, France, Japan, Canada, Germany, Australia and other capitalist countries have not provided personnel to fight the virus.

And you can't use insults and biased thinking to make your case. What is the latest book you read on capitalism, Mr. Baidoo?
In my view, sustainability in the 21 century has to be planning & mixed economy.. I seriously doubt you are proposing capitalism for Ghana.

The current administration cannot even get TOR to work is that not part of your mixed economy?
Regarding your last jibe, I just have let you know that I don’t show off. I don’t tell people the books that I read unless it is extremely important to make a point, which sometimes I don’t find it necessary. Anyway, I know your drift; however, I am not going to get into any fight. Thank you very much.
