The former director of State Protocol, now Ghana's ambassador to France, Mr. Harry Blavo has filed a suit at an Accra High Court against the Free Press, an Accra private newspaper claiming two hundred million cedis for libel. In his statement of claim, Mr. Blavo said the Free Press in its 14th to 16th April issue carried an article that sought to indicate that he, as then Director of State Protocol was corrupt and had allocated to himself unauthorised funds.

In his statement of claim, Mr. Blavo said the Free Press in its 14th to 16th April issue carried an article that sought to indicate that he, as then Director of State Protocol was corrupt and had allocated to himself unauthorised funds. Quoting from the story headlined, "SCANDAL ENGULFS THE STATE PROTOCOL, 160 MILLION CEDIS DOWN THE DRAIN", which sought to imply that Mr. Blavo within his 5 year tenure of office as director acquired a 50 acre plot of land with a street value of 67 million cedis at Aburi in the Eastern region. The story went on further to say that he also owns a mansion on Cairo Street at East Legon in Accra worth 105 million cedis. The suit also seeks a perpetual injunction restraining the editor of Free Press, his publishers and their respective representatives from publishing anything libellous against him.
