The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante has stated that measures must be put in place to eliminate corruption from every sector of the society.

Commenting on the recent scandal that has rocked the Judicial Service, Rev. Prof. Asante said it was not just about the judiciary but the entire Ghanaian society.

“This should draw our attention to the fact that corruption is a naked reality in our society and we need to take concrete and drastic steps to arrest the situation.”

“I need to fight corruption in me. You must fight corruption in you. All must fight corruption in us to advance our country,” he told the Daily Graphic in an interview.

Thirty-four Magistrate and High Court judges and over 180 judicial service workers were recently videotaped demanding for bribes, sex and goats to influence cases before the courts.

The over two-year investigation in the judiciary was made public by undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Twenty-two magistrates have been suspended while the 12 High Court judges are yet to know their fate as the committee set up by the Chief Justice goes on break.
