Media Consult, a pressure group, has petitioned the Inspected General of Police (IGP) to as a matter of urgency invite the Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin for questioning over his conduct in the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) bribery scandal.
The group in an interaction with journalists in Accra on Wednesday said the GH¢250,000.00 alleged to have been paid to the Effutu legislator as bribe to soften his stance in the public offer by the ADB was an affront to the ethics of the Legislature.
In their view, once the honourable member has been caught on tape discussing how he could make GH¢1 million from the ADB, it would be appropriate for the IGP to spearhead his arrest for interrogation.
Their call brings to two, the number of pressure groups calling for the arrest of the Effutu lawmaker.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin and his client had gone to court to seek an injunction on the ADB’s Initial Public Officer (IPO) until they seek parliamentary approval for the transaction.
But in the process, he is said to have compromised his stance.
He is alleged to have been paid GH¢25,000 by the bank. But he seems not satisfied.
An audio recording which had gone viral on social media platforms and played severally on some radio stations had a conversation between two men discussing how they plotted against the bank to make some money using the court action against the IPO as bait.
One of them has since been identified as the Effutu legislator while the other is his childhood friend, Kwesi Bonzoh.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin was heard discussing how he could make GH¢1 million from the bank after which he would go to court “to play gymnastics” for the court to rule in favour of ADB.
He was also heard telling his friend that part of the money advanced to him had been disbursed to some key friends who were involved in the matter.
