Asamoah Gyan has heaped massive praises on the competency and experience of his coach at Shanghai SIPG, Sven Goran Eriksson, the Ghana captain even revealing that the experienced Swedish tactician wanted to sign him to Manchester City back in 2008.

Gyan says the good leadership of Eriksson contributed to what he will describe as a successful first season in Chinese soccer which culminated in his side qualifying for next year's Asian Champions' League.

"Our relationship has been very very good. I knew Eriksson way back in 2008 when he was at Man City, he nearly signed me for Man City but I had an injury at CAN 2008. That was where I got that injury so the deal didn't happen," Gyan told journalists on arrival in Accra on Tuesday.

"So I will say he has been a great fan since day one so he knows my capabilities and everything, therefore our relationship has been very good," the Black Stars skipper said at the Kotoka International Airport.

"Talking about experience, he is one of the best, he has coached one of the best teams in the world and he has coached one of the best national teams in the world," Gyan hailed Eriksson.

The Ghana captain added: "So the experience is there but talking about relationship, he's very good, It's like a father and son relationship He tries to understand what the players want and he adds his experience to it and he delivers on the pitch which is a good thing."
