The newly appointed Hearts of Oak coach has rejected claims that he promised to win the Premier League and FA Cup titles in his maiden year
Hearts of Oak coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi says reports that he promised to win a double in his first season with the club may have been misquoted.
The 46-year-old Japanese, who was unveiled as the Accra-based side’s manager on October 28, much to the dismay of many local fans, was reported to have promised two titles in his first term to prove his worth after sealing a two-year deal.
“I wasn’t emphatic about the issue of winning the league and the FA Cup. I think my comment was misinterpreted by many journalists,” Kenichi told AshFM.
“What I said at the press conference was that, our fans expect our team to win the league and the FA Cup and we will try our best to achieve that goal.
“And whether we can achieve that or not remains to be seen.
“Our future is unwritten and I think all the 16 premier league teams don’t know who is going to win the league at the moment.
“But for us to achieve that goal, we need togetherness.”
Kenichi, a former trainer at the Aspire Academy in Qatar and coach of Suzuyo Shimizu, a Japanese women outfit, has seen his credentials questioned by many due to his lack of experience at top level in the sport.
The Phobians ended the 2014-15 Ghana Premier League a place above relegation in perhaps the club’s most disappointing season in recent times.
