Defender Isaac Vorsah handed Ghana a massive boost for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers as he returned to competitive action in Austria on Friday night after a two-year injury-induced absence.

The centre-back came off the bench to play for Liefering in their 5-1 hammering of FAC Wien in the Austrian second-tier league ending nearly three years of absence.

The 27-year-old defender had not played competitive football since playing for Red Bull Salzburg in their 2-1 Cup defeat against FC Pasching in May 2013.

Vorsah, a former TSG Hoffenheim defender, suffered injuries on his road to recovery from a problematic ankle injury but he finally recovered from injury, but he was told by Salzburg to join their second string side in the Austrian second-tier.

He sat on the bench for the first time on Tuesday as Liefering recorded a 2-1 win over Austria Lustenau.

But on Friday evening the former Asante Kotoko defender came off the bench in the 78th minute to replace Ghana youth midfielder David Atanga who scored the opening goal for Liefering with a 2nd-minute goal.

Ghanaian duo of Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Raphael Dwamena were unused by Liefering in the game.

Vorsah’s return to action is a massive boost for the Black Stars as his partnership with Jonathan Mensah, or John Boye has been hailed as one of the best the country has ever had.

His towering figure accounted for the opponents’ inability to get past the Black Stars, and his return could force some changes in the centre-back of the Ghana side.
