GHALCA Vice Chair Isaac Koomson
Two members of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) are on a collision course over an alleged attempt to rob the association of 3000 for the organization of the G6 Invitational Tournament.
Vice Chairman Isaac Koomson and Executive Member Kojo Poku have been at each others throat over a proposal for a kit sponsorship package from an unnamed Italian company.
The proposal, according to Isaac Koomson was first made to have the Italian company provide two sets of kits (for home and away matches) to the six teams that will be competing in the tournament which has now been fixed to start on December 9.
This arrangement was to come at no cost to the GHALCA with the Italian firm looking to leverage on media publicity to launch themselves into the Ghanaian market.
GHALCA looked set to make an announcement to this effect only to be issued an invoice for the payment of 3000 for allegedly placing an order for the kits.
Kojo Poku who is at the forefront of brokering this agreement for GHALCA has since been accused by the Vice Chairman of attempts to wrongfully milk the association of scarce resources.
We have had extensive discussions with this company for them to come and sponsor the G6 tournament at absolutely no cost to GHALCA, Isaac Koomson told Accra-based Happy FM on Thursday.
This is a company looking to ride on the platform being provided by the G6 competition to launch themselves to the Ghanaian market. That is the benefit they stand to gain and nothing else.
But to our surprise we were subsequently told to pay 3000 for the kits. If that is the case, how then can we call such an arrangement be a sponsorship?
My position on such issues have been made clear enough. We are not going to pay such an opponent without any proper documentation or paper trail especially based on the discussions weve had on it.
But Kojo Poku in a rebuttal called his Vice President a liar after insisting it was agreed that the amount would be paid for a purported order for the set of kits.
Poku was however hesitant to give in-depth details as he claims it will destroy the already tainted brand of GHALCA.
All I have to say is that it is not true that the demand of 3000 came as an element of surprise, he said.

I will not continue to talk about this issue in the public because I know in marketing it will hurt the brand GHALCA.
We keep destroying our own brand with such issues discussed in the public and I am surprise my Vice Chairman is coming out this way.
GHALCA was embroiled in a similar controversy involving their Chairman Alhaji Ali Raji who was accused of pocketing a $9000 loan secured from the Ghana FA to pay Nigerian club Enyimba for their participation in the 2013 Presidents Cup.
That issue remains unresolved despite assurance from even the GFA to undertake a thorough investigation into allegations leveled against the chairman for which some members including the Vice Chairman and Executive Member, Isaac Koomson and Kojo Poku want Alhaji Ali Raji removed.
