Nana Akufo-Addo has said he will not score President John Mahama more than 3 out of 10 – with zero being the worst and 10 being the best – as far as his fight against corruption in the country is concerned.

Repeating his assertion that the president’s fight against graft was a “sham”, the three-time flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) told Fiifi Banson on Kasapa FM on Tuesday, March 29 that the Mahama administration has been mired in a lot of graft cases.

Speaking about his general assessment of the current government, the former Attorney General said Ghana has retrogressed under Mr Mahama.

He said even though the governing party inherited a thriving economy from the Kufuor administration in 2009, Ghana’s economic fortunes have taken a nosedive despite the country now being an oil producer.

“Agriculture is not growing, manufacturing is in decline, our currency is weak, our economy is in serious crisis,” he said.

He said relative to Ivory Coast’s economy, which, according to him, has seen consecutive growth in the ranges of 8%, 9% and 10% consistently for the past six years, Ghana’s has retrogressed even with oil.

Additionally, Mr. Akufo-Addo, who is running for president for the third time said a recent survey by Afrobarometer, which said 82% of Ghanaians think the country is heading in the wrong direction, underscores his assertion and that of the opposition that Mr. Mahama has not handled the country well.
