Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings
Former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, has described as needless the controversy that surrounded the invitation of the three South African ex-servicemen to the country by the opposition New Patriotic Party.
According to her, there is nothing unusual about a party seeking to improve its internal security.
The trio who were brought in by the NPP to train its internal security personnel have been deported following an impasse between the party and the BNI over the propriety of their stay in the country. The BNI argued that their operations were unhealthy to the security of the state.
Speaking to StarrFMonline.com Thursday, Mrs Rawlings who downplayed the issue said there are serious things the state must rather engage itself with.
“We shouldn’t create a mountain where there is a little anthill. There are many things going on in this country that are creating serious security threats to Ghanaians and nobody is saying anything about it. Our waters are being damaged by the Chinese and their cronies in government, there is mercury in our water and nobody cares; three South Africans and we are worried?
“For me, it is not the most important thing. We have over 100 Chinese people in the country who are dissipating our forests and water and we are worried over three South Africans? I don’t think it’s the most important thing right now. There are killings going on and nobody is talking about it, ” she stated.
The three — Major Ahmed Shaik Hazis (retd), 54; Warrant Officer Denver Dwayhe, 33, and Captain Mlungiseli Jokani, 45 — were arrested at the EL-Capitano Hotel where they had been based since arriving in Ghana.
