At least 18 people have sustained serious injuries in severe rainstorm that has hit Kalaga community in the Tamale Metropolis of the Northern region of Ghana.
According to Starr News’ Eliasu Tanko, the victims sustained leg, hand and head injuries and are receiving treatment at a herbal centre and some health centres.
Tanko also reported that 75 others have been rendered homeless by the disaster which lasted for about eight hours, destroying 27 houses and several shops and kiosks.
The Sub-Metro zonal coordinator of NADMO Mohammed Sahada after an assessment mission described it as "mass disaster."
He was unable to tell when the disaster relief outfit will provide assistance to the victims except to say, “the regional outfit was limited but will write to national office.”
The Assemblyman for the Kalaraga electoral area, Amadu Yahuza, appealed to religious bodies, NGOs and philanthropists to come to their aid.
Some of the victims who spoke to Starr News mourned over the incident and said they were confused and disarranged and appealed to authorities to assist.
