This is nothing extraordinarily alarming in the Security environment. Given what happened in the Ivory Coast, it was simply natural that this scenario would arise in our Security setting.

The Security Agencies always update the security conditions and rank threat levels with any new piece of information that helps them prepare better.

So, it is not like there is a threat of any imminent attack on Ghana. From the very beginning, every vigilant Ghanaian knew that our preponderant Christian population was a magnet for Jihadist attacks both from within and without.

It would be foolish if we didn't see that possibility and adequately prepare for it. New and closer instances of Jihadist violence must provide our Security Agencies some cause for fresh rehash and evaluation of existing plans and new ones. But they should never be complacent and relax on the job.

Therefore, folks must not be unduly alarmed by this leakage that somehow, some new plot for attacking Ghana has been just discovered.

All who were against the Gitmo 2 hosting by us are prone to jumping on the slightest sign of heightened preparedness to start fear-mongering. While we ought to be always alert, we must not be subjected to such unnecessary detraction and panic. Elevated Security Alert levels must not raise our blood pressure levels.
