The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) has lashed out at government over what it describes as the attempt to mislead the public on the current power situation.

Information from the Ghana Grid Company Wednesday indicated that power providers are shedding about 300 Megawatts of load in Accra, Tema, and Western, Eastern, Central and Volta region.

But the Power Ministry has asked the public to disregard the information, insisting that there is adequate power to meet the current demand.

Head of Research Policy Unit at ACEP Dr. Ishmael Ackah in an interview with Starr News said government is being economical with the truth.

“We have monitored the situation since March and the situation is getting worse,” Dr. Ackah said.

According to Dr. Ackah, the current power crisis is due to low water levels in the Bui dam and lack of adequate gas supply from Nigeria.

He called on the Power Minister and government to be truthful to Ghanaians on the way forward and how the current challenges will be resolved.
