MP calls for national census by 2000

Kumasi,(Ashanti Region) 4 Jan. '99, Mr Sampson K. Boafo, Member of Parliament for Subin, has called on the government, as a matter of urgency, to conduct a national census before the 2000 election year. This will enable the government to have an effective national planning and budgeting data as well as clearing doubts about results in national elections. Mr Boafo made the call at a reception organised by Nana Kwame Asante Frimpong, Member of Parliament for Kwabre, in Kumasi, for members of the executive committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The Subin MP, also called for an effective electoral system and urged the National Electoral Commission (NEC) to make it possible for all eligible electorate to have a voter's identity card for future elections. Mr Boafo, who is also the Minority Chief Whip, urged NPP members and supporters to close their ranks and rally solidly behind the party's flagbearer, Mr John Agyekum Kufuor, to win the Presidential seat in the next elections. He appealed to the executive and all party faithfuls from the unit to the national levels to start campaigning for the 2000 elections. Nana Asante-Frimpong called on the executive to work out effective strategies to enable members and supporters of the NPP to campaign effectively for victory in the next general elections. Nana Frimpong Manso, Kwabre NPP constituency chairman, urged party members to refrain from acts that tend to undermine the image of the party. He charged organisers at the zonal and unit levels to reach out to all areas of the communities to campaign for more votes. Nana Manso, the Nkosuohene of Buabin near Dunkwa-On-Offin, urged members to ensure peace and unity in their communities while mobilising the people for communal development.
