Ahead of the November 7 presidential and parliamentary polls, the United States Embassy in Ghana has reminded all and sundry that Ghana has earned an image as a peaceful democracy, therefore, must oppose violent acts.

The stakes in Ghana are very high as the country approaches the election. There are already issues with the credibility of the voters’ register.

The Electoral Commission is yet to carry out an order given to it by the Supreme Court to clean the register by deleting names of persons who registered using National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards as a form of identification and reregister them by using appropriate national IDs or through other legal procedure.

In spite of these happenings in Ghana, the US Embassy in Ghana is optimistic that Ghana will be a violence-free country before, during, and after the elections.

The embassy tweeted: "Ghana has a reputation as a peaceful democracy. Ensuring peaceful elections requires each of us to make it clear we oppose violence."
