Accra, Oct. 29, GNA - Japan, India and China have agreed to support Ghana to develop its tourism potentials, Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Sector Minister, said on arrival at Kotoka International Airport from the 15th General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization. He said the countries had promised to provide funding and training to build the capacity of Ghanaians to promote tourism.
He said plans were advanced to relocate the Accra zoo to the Shai Hills to create a natural habitat so as to attract tourist from across the globe.
Commenting on the meeting, Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey said it was an eye opener to the Ghanaian delegation since it afforded it the opportunity to appreciate the efforts being made by technologically advanced countries to improve upon their tourism to make it a major foreign exchange earner.
"Although France is the leading country in tourism, it is working even harder not to be overtaken by China in the near future," he said. Mr Obestebi-Lamptey said as a sign of Ghana's commitment to improve the tourism industry it would hold an Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Ministers conference on tourism to discuss how to develop the Sector in the Sub-Region and the continent as a whole. The Deputy Minister of Tourism and Modernization of Capital City, Alhaji Boniface Sadique met the Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey on arrival.
