Summary Of Phone-Ins

PEACE FM PHONE-INS

? It was wrong for the President to sign the convention between Ghana and the U.S.A. It is not only during this regime that the U.S has given Ghana military assistance. President Kufuor should not be swayed by monetary benefits against the wishes of Ghanaians.

? The convention signed by President Kufuor favours both Ghana and the U.S.A, so the NDC should not deceive the public that it was as a result of monetary gain that the President was compelled to sign it.

? Ghanaians should have the right information on issues before coming out with flimsy accusations against the government. The NDC should not be condemning government policies in the way they are using Dzidzor to do.

? I am not surprised at the NDC’s stand on the signing of the convention between Ghana and the USA. The President did not do it by his own authority, it was parliament that approved of it.

? If NDC parliamentarians will always debate and vote on issues on party lines, it will not do them any good. They should know that they are in the minority, so if they take this stand, the majority will vote against them and prevail.

CHOICE FM PHONE-INS

? If the Ministry of Information were well resourced to disseminate information on government policies and programmes, the unnecessary debate and condemnation of government policies would not have arisen.

? The government should have one mouthpiece to explain or defend its policies so as to end the different interpretations given by the Minister of Information, government spokespersons and other ministers who are connected with issues.

? The NPP government is deceiving Ghanaians by claiming that HIPC funds are being used to construct markets and toilets. Some of the projects are self-help projects by the inhabitants themselves, but have been commissioned by state officials and labeled as HIPC.

? It is true that members of parliament are under pressure from their constituents for financial help, but the MPs have themselves to blame for this situation they find themselves in. During campaign periods, some MPs make vain promises and some seek the help of others, so the people look up to them for rewards after they have won the elections. This should be an eye opener to would-be MPs.

ADOM FM PHONE-INS

? Kofi Wayo has not helped his own constituency with any development projects, even though he claims to be a millionaire. Wayo should take a cue from the silent ones who are helping their communities.

? If the government does not take steps to check on the way and manner the cocoa spraying exercise is carried out, it will have serious consequences, as has happened with one District Chief Executive. Farmers who support the NDC are sidelined for those in support of the ruling government.

? Members of parliament should not take to party lines when debating national issues, so that the whole country will benefit, because these MPs are not in Parliament on their own, but representing their constituents.

? The Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress, Adu Amankwah, should have known by now how insensitive he has been to workers’ plight. He should count the number of patients who are detained because of their inability to afford the huge hospital bills.

? Hon. Ama Benyiwa-Doe should submit herself to authority, because no matter her position, she cannot carry out any developmental projects in her constituency without approval, as the chief is the custodian of the land.

? The cocoa farm sprayers who attacked and beat up the District Chief Executive into a state of unconsciousness should be arrested and prosecuted in the courts to serve as a deterrent to others who would wish to take the law into their own hands. However, DCEs who supervise the cocoa spraying exercise should be advised to speed up payments and other benefits for the sprayers and also give equal benefits to farmers from different sides of the political divide. This will put a stop to the accusations being leveled against the government.

? Those in opposition who claim that the National Health Insurance Scheme will fail when implemented, should know that it is their own lives that are on the line.

? All those thinking evil against the success of the NHIS will bow their heads in shame, because poor workers and farmers of this our dear nation who will benefit from it and will ensure its success.

? Hon. Ama Benyiwa-Doe has been in parliament for three successive terms, so the chief has the right to question her on development projects in her constituency since she got to parliament. Ama should give respect to the chief by sitting down with him, for them to know the people’s priorities.
