Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, MP, Ablekuma West Constituency
A member of parliament of the New Patriotic Party Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has described Ghana as a sick society.
According to her, “we must blame everybody in Ghana” for Kennedy Agyepong's attacks on women, not the lawmaker himself.
The NPP firebrand who represents the party in the Ablekuma West constituency poured a fluent line of invectives on Citi FM's Eye Witness News. Her frustration became apparent because the presenter, Richard Sky referred her to her loud silence when the Electoral Commissioner, Madam Charlotte Osei was accused by Agyepong of attaining her position through the offer of sex to men in authority.
It would be recalled that not long ago the NPP member of parliament of Assin North Mr Agyepong levelled that allegation against the EC boss on a campaign platform of the New Patriotic Party. After the attack, the National Women Organiser of the NPP insisted on Class FM in an interview with Emefa Apau that the allegation is valid enough to warrant an investigation of the Bureau of National Investigations.
In the midst of these series of accusations against the EC boss, civil society organisations expressed disgust at these baseless attacks on the womanhood. Demonstrations were held against the attacks. But the NPP Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West did not get involved in any of them.
It was put to her on the radio show that she was loudly silent on the matter. This reminder boxed the MP in and got her to explode with expletives one of which was that "Kennedy Agyepong is a product of this sick society we live in."
She therefore opined that Agyepong cannot be blamed for his abuse of the rights of the EC chairperson. Rather, to her, the whole Ghanaian society is to blame for it.
