Former President of the Ghana Football Association, Nana Sam Brew-Butler, has described deputy Black Stars captain Andre Ayew as a brilliant player, as the 26-year-old prepares ahead of a new season in the English Premier League with Welsh side Swansea City.

The player, over the past weeks, has become the subject of media speculation. Some reports suggest the son of Ghanaian football legend Abedi Ayew Pele, has had a deal of almost £20million tabled by English side West Ham for his services.

Speaking to Class Sports’ Hussein Hassan, the owner of Ghana Premier League side Ebusua Dwarfs said: “If I have to single out anybody, it definitely must be Andre Ayew because he is such a brilliant lad. When he got into the team in 2008, he was probably a bit too young and didn’t make much impact. But for him to have got over all the things that were said about him and become the player he is now is a remarkable achievement.”

“Although his dad is arguably the best player the country has seen, you could say his rise to his current level has nothing to do with his dad. He is also a very disciplined footballer, in my opinion, and also leads by example on and off the field. He is a model professional.”

Ayew has earned over 65 caps in his career. At the youth level, he captained the Under-20 team that won both the 2009 African Youth Championship and the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He has played in two FIFA World Cups – 2010 and 2014.
