The Nii Boye family of Abeka in the Greater Accra Region has confirmed the removal of the chief of the area, Nii Boye IV.

According to the spokesperson for the royal family, Armah Ayitey, the chief was de-stooled on Saturday September 10 for smoking marijuana, conduct they deemed condescending to his position as traditional ruler.

Mr Ayitey said it was “hurtful” that the chief had to be searched for in the ‘ghettos’ (wee-smoking joints) of Abeka anytime his services were needed at the palace.

“We called him morning, afternoon, and evening to warn him,” the spokesperson told Accra News Sunday September 11.

“It is a shocking and very sad situation. His action was disgracing the family, so when the elders considered the matter they decided to bring an end to the embarrassment. So what you heard was true: he is no more a member of the royal family.

Mr Ayitey assured that there had been no upheaval at Abeka following the chief’s removal, assuring that many people were even happy with the decision and were going about their normal duties.
