Nene Agbewornu Dameh, Chief of Sege, has denied reports that chiefs in and around Sege openly endorsed the candidature of Nana Addo, when they hosted him last Tuesday.

According to him, at a durbar to host Nana Addo at Anyamam, they (chiefs) only chronicled some of their challenges, which the government had failed to address.

Nene Dameh said, “We mentioned the construction of a sea-defence wall, good roads and dams for agriculture as some of the needs we would like Nana Addo to work on for us, should Ghanaians give him the mandate to become president.”

Nene Agbewornu told The Chronicle that as chiefs they were aware of the provisions in the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana and Chieftaincy Act that barred them from partisan politics.

Again, he said the chiefs would not do anything to ridicule their Paramount Chief, Nene Abraham Kabu Akuaku III.

He admitted that the chiefs in the area had their political affiliations, “but that was an expression the chiefs could do privately with their choice of political party candidate. After all, the chiefs too will vote on December 7,” he explained.

Nene Agbewornu Dameh said they would mention their challenges to any presidential candidate who would visit them – “and so as chiefs, we would entreat the media to report accurately on what we table before presidential candidates.

“When the media misrepresent facts, it causes disaffection for our area and that will cause the development of our various communities”.

He reminded the youth to stay away from any act of violence before, during and after this year’s elections.
