An NPP presidential aspirant, Nana Akufo Addo, has warned that the party may disintegrate if it fails to win the 2000 elections. "We should therefore see the 2000 elections as a do and die elections for NPP".

Addressing party executives from some constituencies in the Ashanti region, Nana Akufo Addo, who is on a campaign tour of the region, said political parties are not formed to always stay in opposition.

He, therefore, reminded the party members to see the election of a flagbearer as the greatest decision to be taken in the history of the party.

Nana Addo, who is also a MP for Abuakwa, noted that the ruling NDC cannot solve the problems of the country while the NPP, which is capable of governing the people cannot work to win elections.

He said for the party to win the 2000 elections, "we should look for a leader who can bring a coalition into play and even win voters from other parties including the NDC itself".

Nana Addo said the NPP should have dialogue with groups such as the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and farmers organisations among others to win more votes.

He reminded the people that the NPP's popularity could not be turned into votes in the 1992 and 1996 elections and said "I am the one who can lead the party and turn its popularity into votes".
