The Electoral Commission has discovered more errors on the nomination forms of presidential candidates who were disqualified for the 2016 general elections.

This comes after the Supreme Court on Monday ordered the EC to extend the period of filing of nomination forms to close of day Tuesday to offer presidential candidates time to correct their errors.

However, according to the EC, more errors have been discovered on the forms of some of the disqualified candidates.

The EC says it has detected 33 new errors on the nomination forms of the National Democratic Party (NDP) presidential nominee, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.

A statement signed by the General Secretary of the NDP, Mohammed Frimpong said the EC’s announcement of discovery of new errors is ‘unfair’ and ‘absurd’.

On the nomination forms of the All People’s Congress’ Hassan Ayariga, 93 new errors have been detected bringing to 95 the total number of mistakes he needs to correct before 5pm today.

At the time of Mr. Ayariga’s disqualification, the EC identified two errors on his forms but following a ruling by the Supreme the election management body said it has detected close to 100 more mistakes.

Meanwhile, the lawyer for PPP’s Kwesi Nduom has confirmed to the media that the errors which formed basis for the disqualification of the Progressive People Party flagbearer have increased from 1 to 105.

The PPP flagbearer was disqualified because one of his endorsers, Richard Asida was deemed to have endorsed the candidate in two regions - Central and the Volta regions - contrary to the election regulation which allowed the endorser the right to endorse in only one region.
