The Korle- Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra is to construct a new block to serve as a center for Traditional and Herbal Medicine.
The block will also house the Haematology Department and the Drug and Rehabilitation Centre of the hospital.
It will be financed with proceeds from the Hospital Endowment Fund.
Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, the hospital CEO, announced this yesterday when he received a donation of ?200 million from the management and staff of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) towards the Korle-Bu Endowment Fund.
According to him “it is wrong for orthodox medical practitioners to dismiss traditional medicine in view of its enormous healing potentials.”
Prof. Boateng said however that what was needed was to ensure that the herbal drugs were prepared scientifically before being administered to patients.
