Kumasi, Jan 2, GNA- The joint military-police patrol team formed to ensure law and order during the Christmas and New Year holidays has arrested about 35 people to be put before court.

Some of them were said to be involved in the harassment of people during the New Year.

Addressing a press conference in Kumasi in reaction to a publication in the Friday issue of the Daily Graphic, Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, the Ashanti Regional Minister who is chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), said two people Kwame Attah, 17 and Samuel Addison 19 were arrested on Friday morning in connection with the attacks.

Mr Boafo said the REGSEC was disturbed about the nicknames given to the groups and that the operations of the criminals were blown out of proportion.

The Regional Minister said crime wave in the metropolis had decreased by 50 percent and attributed this to the hard work of the REGSEC and the co-operation of civil society.

Mr Boafo said REGSEC was not resting on its oars to ensure that the residents in the region and Kumasi in particular live in peace and gave the assurance that REGSEC was solidly in control of the security situation in the region.

He appealed to the civil society and the press to assist REGSEC with any information on the criminals.
