Professor John Evans Atta Mills, Flagbearer of NDC on Saturday said 2004 is a positive year for the NDC, because a lot of things show that the political fortune will turn to his party's favour.
He was addressing the 22nd anniversary of the 31st December Revolution at Ashaiman Mandela Park.
The venue had been changed from Government School because of the heavy attendance of NDC supporters, which the location could not contain.
Prof. Mills pointed out that, harsh economic conditions, high utility tariffs, over 100 percent increase in transport fares, unaffordable school fees are making Ghanaians to suffer untold hardships and increase poverty levels.
"It is for these reasons that Ghanaians should take the next voters registration exercise seriously, so that we can remove the people who have come to show us how to put on big coats from office. Your failure to register means you don't want NDC to push out the government, which has no solution to the problems confronting the nation."
Prof. Mills, said, "when we are voted to power, we will have a second look at the high prices in the country and with recommendation from our researchers, the NDC will find out how to reduce them.
"I told you in the year 2000 that those who spoke about positive change, if voted to power will create problems for the people, and that is exactly what is happening, therefore, the "sankofa" slogan bell has been tolled at the right time."
Reacting to President Kufuor's Radio and Television broadcast on 31st December, where, he said, 2003 was a good year, Prof. Mills said, "it was good for the President, his wife and family", adding, while his harsh economic activities were biting on us, we cannot accept that things were good for the suffering masses.
He said, "I will continue to prop the government's attention about the sufferings of the people", pointing out that the commendation by the Western donors and the Breton Wood institutions that the economy is good is deceptive, if the government wants to see how the economy is doing, they should reach the people in the rural areas, who will tell them how bad they are faring in their pockets.
Mr Kwamena Ahwoi, NDC Director of Research said it is years ago that Mr J.A. Kufuor was invited by Flt. Lt. Rawlings to come and assist in the restructuring of the Local Government administration, in the process of building Ghana, but he failed to perform, and therefore, backed out. Mr Kofi Ator, MP for Ho Central said it was 31st December that gave birth to the Fourth Republican constitution, and the establishment of political parties.
"You should, therefore, respond as soon as the Electoral Commission opens the voters register, by making sure that you register as a voter." Nii Adjei Boye Sekan, National Co-ordinator of ACDRS said it is the revolution that came to improve the commodities situation and stopped the rot that had engulfed trading activities during the 'kalabule time.' He said the cadres, still pledge their support to Prof. Mills and the NDC and assured the party leadership that they would continue to undertake the work of foot soldiers for the party during their electioneering campaign.
Some of the women party members carried on their heads, lighted hurricane lamps indicating that they have now seen the light. Among those present were Alhaji Huudu Yahaya, a member of the National Executive of NDC, Mr E.T. Mensah, MP for Ningo/Prampram and Mr. Alfred Kwame Agbesi, a lawyer seeking to stand on the ticket of NDC at Ashaiman.
