Ghana’s Administrator General has maintained that despite the many challenges facing his outfit in ensuring a smooth transition of power from the governing NDC to the opposition NPP come January 7, his unit is determined to see through a proper process devoid of mishaps.

David Yaro, the gentleman leading the unit overseeing the transition process as mandated by law has lamented the poor working conditions and the lack of logistics to ensure a smooth running of his office.

He bemoaned that the understaffed institution was in dire need of persons with IT skills to handle some operations in the office while adding that they have to rely on the use of ‘Okada’ and taxis to run official errands.

“A big office like that, we don’t have a single vehicle to make movement. If I am to go and check the authenticity of anything, I am crippled… I don’t have a vehicle; and in my office most of the time, we have to do dispatches with ‘Okada’ and taxis from our own pockets,” he told citifmonline.

However, he assured that mechanisms have been put in place to avoid any unforeseen circumstances and avoid a repeat of mistakes committed during the last transition.

“When we looked at the reporting format of the previous transition, we realized there were some shortcomings…we quickly updated and took the chief directors of the various ministers through a workshop to make sure everything was okay.”

He said the institution is determined to ensure that the Ghanaian democracy is “successful” thus the set-up is “so elaborate that after the handing over has been prepared the transition will not be affected.”

The official inauguration of a 16-member transitional team comprising the NDC and the NPP was held on Sunday December 11, 2016 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

The Team was co-chaired by Mr Mahama and President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
