Kumasi, Jan.17, GNA - Monsignor Gabriel Justice Yaw Anokye, Vice Rector of the St. Peter's Major Seminary at Pedu, was on Saturday, consecrated as an Auxiliary Bishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kumasi. Monsignor Yaw Anokye, 44, a Professor of Theology, History of Religion and Religious Anthropology, was ordained into the Catholic priesthood in 1988. He was appointed an Auxiliary Bishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kumasi in November 2003 by Pope John Paul 11, after a petition by Most Reverend Peter Akwasi Sarpong, Metropolitan ArchBishop of Kumasi.
The consecration mass, which was performed by Most Reverend Peter Akwasi Sarpong, Metropolitan Arch Bishop of Kumasi, was attended by all the 18 Bishops of the Catholic Church in the country, as well as the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, the Most Reverend Peter Kotchery, government officials, members of parliament and traditional rulers. Delivering the sermon, His Eminence, Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson, President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, congratulated the new Bishop and urged him to share onto the people some of the favours bestowed on him by the Lord. He said the aim of every leader was to be found trustworthy in the task placed on his shoulder and advised the new Bishop to administer his duties to the satisfaction of the congregation and onto the glory of God.
Cardinal Turkson, also cautioned the congregation against acts that could hinder the smooth administration of the new Bishop, adding, "you should not embitter the hearts of your leaders". He prayed for God's guidance and strength for the new Bishop to enable him to discharge his duties efficiently.
