Accra, Jan 22, GNA- Ghana says it believes its destiny lies in the success of efforts to galvanize development and integration in West Africa.
She said that it would do on the basis of the values of democratic accountability, respect for human rights and the rule of law. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Minister of Foreign Affairs said this in Accra at a luncheon in honour of the visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark, Dr Per Stig Moller.
He said development in the region, however, would not take place without peace, stability and security.
Nana Akufo-Addo described the activities of ECOWAS in Cote d'Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea-Bissau "as a demonstration of its seriousness and commitment to the realization of these objectives of peace and security."
He said the relationship between Ghana and Denmark which made the latter to generously support the Ministry of Justice in the establishment of business law division in Ghana as one of several initiatives designed to promote the private sector was commendable. He thanked Denmark for committing 55 million dollars in support of water, sanitation and health sectors in the Greater Accra, Eastern, Volta and Central Regions.
Ghana is also receiving an 89 million-dollars support towards the decentralization programme from 2002 to 2007.
Dr Moller commended Ghana's leadership role in ECOWAS and promised Denmark's continued support for the sub-regional body.
He was happy at Ghana's drive towards democratic governance, adding, "after our meetings with civil societies and other bodies today we are convinced that there is no turning back in the pursuant of democracy in Ghana."
