Chancellor Schroeder ends visit

Accra, Jan. 24, GNA - German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder on Saturday ended his two-day visit to Ghana, which formed part of an African tour that took him to Ethiopia, Kenya and South Africa.

President John Agyekum Kufuor, Vice President Aliu Mahama, Ministers of State, Members of the Diplomatic Corps and Service Commanders were at the airport to see Chancellor Schroeder off. Before The Chancellor emplaned, the Ghana Navy Band under the command of Lieutenant Raymond Kyano played the national anthems of the two countries and the two Leaders took the national salute while 21-gun-salute boomed at the background.

During the visit, Chancellor Schroeder and President Kufuor inaugurated the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Centre (KAIPC) at Teshie in Accra.

Germany and Ghana also signed an agreement under which Germany cancelled 16.4 million dollars (145 billion cedis) Ghana owed her. Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning signed for Ghana while Mr Jurgen Chrobog, State Secretary in the Foreign Ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany, signed for his country.
