Accra gets new Mayor

Mon, 26 Jan 2004 Source: GNA

President John Agyekum Kufuor has nominated Mr Stanley Adjiri Blankson for appointment as the Chief Executive of Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).

A statement Mr Kwadwo Mpiani, Chief of Staff, signed on Monday said.

Mr Blankson's appointment is subject to confirmation by two-thirds majority of Members of Accra Metropolitan Assembly present and voting at a meeting convened for that purpose.

President Kufuor re-assigned Mr Solomon Offei Darko, the former Mayor, to the National Development Planning Commission about two weeks ago.

He was scheduled to hand over to the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Sheik I.C Quaye on Monday but this had to be postponed because his handing over notes was not ready.

A source at the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development told the Ghana News Agency that a new date for the exercise would be communicated to the media in due course.
