Accra, Jan.27, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Tuesday said Ghana needed to adopt the economic policies of Ireland, especially on Foreign Inflows for her economic development.
" Ireland has achieved much economic success through Foreign Inflows and Ghana needs to learn and adopt such an experience for her economic development", he said.
President Kufuor said this when receiving the Letters of Credence from Mr Liam Canniffe, Ireland's Ambassador to Ghana and resident in Abuja, Nigeria, at the Castle, Osu.
He said Europe had been the oldest trading partner to countries in West Africa and was optimistic that with Ireland elected Chairman of the European Union (EU) more assistance would be provided to the Sub-Region. President Kufuor commended the EU for the assistance to restore peace and stability to Cote d'Ivoire and Liberia.
He appealed to Mr. Caniffe to endeavour to link the private sector in Ghana to their counterparts in Ireland and other European markets for improved trade partnership for the mutual benefit of both countries. Mr Canniffe commended the government for its socio-economic policies that had shown tremendous economic development, peace and stability in Ghana.
He said Africa required more assistance from the EU to develop and pledged that with Ireland as the Chairman of the organization efforts would be made in that direction.
Mr. Canniffe said during a scheduled meeting of the EU in May, some of the issues to be discussed would be conflict resolutions and disarmament in West Africa and Ghana's economic policies.
