This is a very interesting piece in the light of our contemporary period of post-modernity [Or is it meta post-modernity?]. The example of China the writer gave is interesting. Add Japan and Korea and you would find that they are advancing in Science and Technology not just because they have completely abandoned Religion [and Superstition and Pseudo-Science], but because they are able to see the benefits from all angles and harness them to enrich modern development. In all these Far-Eastern Countries, sentiments for Religion Qua Religion are very strong. None of them undervalue their own Traditional Culture!. It is the 'imported' Religious Ideas that some find a bit problematic, especially with China. Just a few weeks ago, China ushered in the Year of the Rooster. How 'Scientific' is that? In most Chinese homes, you would find alters for the dead that they regularly pay homage to. How different is that from the practices of many organised Religion? Similar examples could be found in Japanese and Korean Societies. The problem with us Africans, vis a vis Religion, is what one could call 'The Abuse' of Religion.! Further, our intellectuals are part of the problem. Instead of investigating how Religion and Science could be made PARTNERS to help with Socio-Political, Economic and Cultural Development, we see them as incompatible.! Like Philosophy and Religion being handmaids, Religion and Science should be seen as partners so that we benefit from both ends.
Currently, in the West, there are Academic Researchers in the field of Science and Religion Researching, Publishing, Organizing Conferences, Seminars etc. to drum home this idea.So instead of trying to 'demonize' religion and seeing it as 'anti-science' perhaps we should think again.

Is belief in God superstition?
Nobody has seen God in physical form. We are told that we shall see God after death but nobody has come back from death to tell us God exists. Are people exploiting belief in God for self-enrichment?
The "Adam and Eve" God seems a complete farce.

Of late, we see a refreshing change.
So, BOWONDA, we see your point!
That the culture is at the center makes it "the main ingredient". It is spot on. It always astonishes us how Ghanaians can say they are human beings with a culture, have a Bible in one hand, and tell people they cannot pour libations because it is anti-Christian.
And there are issues along the culture dimension with respect to Islam.
Still, we are way off the center, you both agree that Ghanaian politicians are responsible for the confusion among the people. It is they who are responsible for public policy at the first and most important "strikes" (proposing, enacting, and executing).
However, as far as we know, Ghanaians cannot go far in time to point their fingers at Kwame Nkrumah. That government of the CPP of the 1960s had a policy analogous to what Seshie provides, from "China".
That is the area where Stanley Seshie's short essay is the strongest, and as a result, very timely. With respect to religion and the crucial importance of science and technology, a public policy that does not concern itself with "praying and worshiping" is important.
So, what policy prescriptions should Ghanaian politicians initiate and promote, going forward?
We have the example from Kwame Nkrumah
We have the example from China
What is Serious Akufo Addo going to do?
DEAR, you must agree that it is the public policy that matters, not whether some people have been "farced" into believing ""Adam and Eve", or similar story.
Greetings.
