Tema, Feb. 11, GNA -- Two accounts clerks of GHACEM factory Tema, who allegedly forged documents to steal cement worth 712,204,875 cedis have been granted 80 million cedis bail each with two sureties each to be justified by the Tema circuit court "B".
Eric Yaw Anim and Harrison Asilevi, pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to steal, forging of documents and will reappear on February 20, 2004.
The prosecution told the court, presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that on November 18, 2003, the accounts manager of GHACEM and an audit team of the company conducted audit inspection at the accounts office and detected that Anim had raised series of fictitious credits to lift cement worth 712,204,875 cedis from the company.
According to the prosecution, further inspection conducted on the documents used by Anim, revealed the involvement of Asilevi, who inspected and signed the fictitious documents and prepared the allocation sheets for Anim.
When police confronted Asilevi as to why he should sign false allocation sheets for Anim, he told them (police) that he never thought Anim could steal from his employers.
The prosecution said Anim, however, informed the police that it was an open deal between the two of them and they shared their booty weekly from May to November that the deal lasted.
Anim told the police that he used part of his money to buy a BMW private car at the cost of 27 million cedis and 11 million cedis was spent on the construction of a drinking spot at Oblojo near Madina where he stays. He again bought two building plots at Dawhenya.
On the part of Asilevi, he told the police that he never benefited from the deal as alleged by Anim. The BMW car has been impounded by the police and 40 million cedis has been recovered.
